Braces for All Ages

Our practice recognizes that adults, teens and children have different needs and require different levels of care and attention. As our patient, we will work with you to ensure that you receive the most appropriate individualized treatment and that your needs are met with understanding, care, respect and commitment from our team.

For Children

The American Association of Orthodontists recommends that a child be seen by an orthodontist no later than the age of seven. Dr. Tigani agrees with the AAO and that a good age is around seven or when the front four adult teeth are growing in.

Orthodontists can spot subtle problems with jaw growth and emerging teeth while some baby teeth are still present. While your child’s teeth may appear to be straight, there could be a problem that only an orthodontist can detect. The check-up may reveal that your child’s bite is fine. Or, the orthodontist may identify a developing problem, but recommend monitoring the child’s growth and development. Then if indicated, you may begin treatment at the appropriate time for the child. In other cases, the orthodontist might find a problem that can benefit from early treatment. Early treatment may prevent more serious problems from developing and may make treatment at a later age shorter and less complicated. However, in some cases, the orthodontist will be able to achieve results that may not be possible once the face and jaws have finished growing.

Early treatment may give your orthodontist the chance to:

  • Guide jaw growth
  • Lower the risk of trauma to protruded front teeth
  • Correct harmful oral habits
  • Improve appearance
  • Guide permanent teeth into a more favorable position
  • Improve the way lips meet

Through an early orthodontic evaluation, you’ll be giving your child the best opportunity for a healthy, beautiful smile. Because patients differ in both physiological development and treatment needs, Dr. Tigani's goal is to provide each patient with the most appropriate treatment at the most appropriate time.

For Teens

Braces are no longer large bands around each tooth with large wires as many teens think. Technology has allowed for braces to be smaller and more efficient than braces of the past. Braces, today, come in many styles, varying materials and colors allowing the treatment experience to be easier, more comfortable and more stylish than the past. Teens have a variety of braces to choose from, metal or ceramic (clear) braces or invisible aligners. The type of braces or aligners you can use for your orthodontic treatment depends on Dr. Tigani's diagnosis that he will explain, at your initial consultation. The length of treatment can vary also but to avoid prolonging your treatment time it is imperative that you stay away from hard or chewy candies or food. Remember, broken braces prolong treatment and most teens, like adults, want to have a fun experience with the least amount of time in braces.

For Adults

Orthodontic treatment is no longer just for teens. Many adults are now seeking orthodontic treatment, realizing the vast benefits of a straight, healthy smile! The American Association of Orthodontists cites that one in five orthodontic patients is over the age of 21! A common misconception is that an adult cannot have braces because of age. There is no age limit as to when someone can have braces or aligners. Many adults are choosing to receive orthodontic treatment because they understand the importance of maintaining their health and they wish to feel better about their appearance. Orthodontic treatment options may vary depending upon the severity of each case. Dr. Tigani will customize your treatment plan to fit your needs. Your choices for braces may include ceramic (clear) braces, clear aligners or a combination of both. Remember, a healthy straight smile can last a lifetime!
