Eating With Braces

There are certain foods and candies that should not be eaten after braces have been placed on the teeth. Foods that are chewy and sticky or hard WILL break the braces off!! The following are EXAMPLES of some of those foods/candies:

  • Gum (with and without sugar)
  • Gummy Bears
  • Now & Laters
  • Starbursts
  • Skittles
  • Snickers
  • Pay Days
  • Tic Tacs
  • Candy Canes (Hard Candies)
  • Popcorn
  • Ice
  • Pizza Crust
  • Licorice
  • Sugar Babies
  • Heath Bars (Toffee Candy)
  • Jaw Breakers
  • Jolly Ranchers
  • Airheads
  • Warheads
  • Tootsie Rolls
  • Lollipops
  • Milky Ways
  • Nerds
  • Butterfingers
  • Pretzels
  • Nuts
  • Hard Breads (French / Italian)
  • Milk Duds
  • Skor
  • Sugar Daddies
  • Babe Ruths
  • Jelly Beans

In addition, if you have braces on your top and/or bottom front teeth, you can no longer bite into certain foods. The following are examples of foods you can no longer bite into:

  • Apples
  • Plums
  • Carrots (hard raw vegetables)
  • Bagels
  • Ribs
  • Peaches
  • Nectarines
  • Corn on the Cob
  • Chicken on the Bone

You can eat the above foods, but you have to cut them into small pieces, cut the meat off the bone, or remove the pits.

They still taste just as good!
