Dental Insurance and Billing

We accept most traditional insurance plans, contact our office to verify acceptance of your plan. We conduct free insurance verification for all patients prior to any procedures being completed, so patients understand what their out-of-pocket expenses will be. We accept checks, cash or credit cards. We also offer a flexible payment plan and PearlFection's private in-office insurance program. Please see our Financial Coordinator for details. We will file insurance claims for you and work with you and your insurance company to maximize your benefits.

Its important to  understand the difference between "taking" or "accepting" an insurance carrier and being "in network" or "contracted" or "participating provider" with an insurance carrier and simply "not taking or accepting" an insurance carrier.  We get the question a lot, so we wanted to explain the difference.  

When a doctor or dentist "takes or accepts" a certain insurance carrier, it means that a patient can use their benefits there.  Most dentists who accept a certain carrier, will submit the claims, fix issues with claims and ultimately make sure the carrier pays the claim.  Sometimes the carrier will send the checks to the patients and sometimes they will send it to the provider. Where the check gets sent depends on how the group is set up.  Carriers like Delta and Blue Cross, sometimes send checks to patients directly. Contrast "accepting or taking" an insurance carrier, with being "in network". A Provider being "in network" means the provider has signed a contract with the carrier and negotiated a fee schedule and other terms.  When a provider is "in network" they have agreed to charge a certain price for certain procedures and no more.   

It’s important for patients to understand the differences between being "in network" and "accepting" an insurance.  

The benefit of PPO insurances is that patients can choose just about any doctor and it doesn't matter if the doctor is "in network" or not, the provider will "accept" the PPO insurance. With PPO plans, patient can use 100% of their benefits.  

When a practice says they "do not take or "do not accept" an insurance, it means that a patient cannot use any of their insurance benefits at that practice.  There are insurance plans that the provider must be "in network" in order for patients to use any of their benefits at all.  Some plans in the Frederick area that the doctors must be "in network" are Medicaid, Kaiser Permanente and Healthy Smiles, to name a few.  These types of plans are sometimes referred to HMO or DMO plans.  

PearlFection Dentistry and our specialists "accepts" all PPO insurance and our general doctors are in network with United Concordia, Cigna and Unum.  Some of our doctors are "in network" with Medicaid and Healthy Smiles but they limit their practice to patients who require sedation dentistry.  

For patients who want more accurate estimates for what insurance will and won't pay for, please ask for a predetermine to be sent.  PearlFection is happy to send predeterminations but keep in mind that predeterminations can take some time to be processed by insurance carriers and even with a predetermination, there is no guarantee that the carrier will pay.

We are happy to file insurance for your reimbursement as long as you are free to choose your own dentist. Insurance benefits estimates are PearlFection's estimates, actual benefits are determined by your insurance plan and all non-covered expenses are the responsibility of the patient.
